My understanding of feet wash on LORD’s Supper || Revelations

Luke 7:36-50 talks about a sinful woman pouring expensive jar on Jesus’s feet, wept aloud and began wiping it with hair with constant kissing. John 12 presents where Mary has washed and anointed feet of Jesus with expensive perfume wiping it with hair.

John 13 talks about Jesus washing feet of 12 Apostles.

Peter said he did not want Jesus to wash his feet. To this Jesus said, “Unless I wash you, you have no part with me.” Then later Peter wanted his whole body washed. But Jesus said, “Those who have had a bath need only to wash their feet; their whole body is clean. And you are clean, though not every one of you.” Jesus also said the Apostles had not understood what Jesus had done by washing feet.

Frankly speaking I have not understood the full meaning of washing feet either. But I am going to tell what Jesus was saying when he commissioned them by saying “Do you understand what I have done for you?” he asked them. “You call me ‘Teacher’ and ‘Lord,’ and rightly so, for that is what I am.  Now that I, your Lord and Teacher, have washed your feet, you also should wash one another’s feet.”

Hospitality and Service

In Genesis feet washing with water was first priority in hospitality Genesis 18:419:224:3243:24 The hosts always served guest with water to wash feet before serving meals and accommodation. Remember Abraham, Lot, Rebecca and others  serving water to wash feet of guest. In fact Abraham provided water for GOD and angels for feet washing.

Abigail she said she was happy to be hand maiden to wash  feet of David’s servants and men, though she was a queen now. 1 Samuel 25:41

Without washing feet, people actually were not allowed to be guest and servants in old times in Judaism or the other parts of the world.

Once Uriah wanted to stay in David’s palace but David did not present water to wash the feet. So David said, “Go down to your house and wash your feet.” 2 Samuel 11:8  This informs even before entering own house people had to wash their feet.

Usually masters, females, woman, handmaiden, wives and house owners brought the water to wash the feet of the guests, relatives and servants.Off course, when water is presented for washing, we know by experience that guests wash hands and face as well.

Feet washing in GOD’s temple and house

Exodus 30:18-21 clarify there should be water basin in front of GOD’s alter to cleanse feet and hands of Aaron, priests and Levites.  1 Kings 7:23-26 speaks of Sea of Bronze water basin supported by 12 oxen. 12 oxen represent 12 tribes of Israel.Hence even GOD’s temple and house had water to serve the temple visitors with water to wash feet and hands.

GOD was saying to People, “I am the master of this temple and house and you all are my guests and people, so I have water to serve you to cleanse your feet and hands before you enter my house for bread, wine, sacrifices and worship.”

Feet washing by Master in Last Supper

John 13, spoken earlier at the top is a Supper organized by Christ himself for the twelve apostles. He was dining them with bread, wine, hymns, prayer and word sharing.

Imagine a modern dinner invitation from your friends and relatives who is there to serve you with all sorts of delicacies to water your mouth, eyes and nose. Hello !! but LORD’s Supper is more like a farewell party here

Thus last supper was the greatest party ever organized by Jesus Christ for his 12 Apostles with his personal invitations. Both hater (Judas Iscariot) and lovers (12 disciples) were well-come. Tonight was the night of Jesus, King of heaven and master of all, organizing the grand supper for the whole humanity. Hence just as host and master of the house provides the water to wash and cleanse feet and hands of guests; Jesus not only presented water, but also washed  feet and wiped with his towel by removing his outer cloak. After washing He put on clothes back say the Apostle John. After washing feet only, disciples were worthy to eat the Lord’s feast and supper. Jesus Christ, the Lord and Master of the Supper fed the disciples with bread and wine.

“It may surprise you but I have a notion that Jesus actually hand fed them with bread and wine when I read, “Then, dipping the piece of bread, he gave it to Judas, the son of Simon Iscariot.” I am sorry I tend to be too extreme, but that is exactly how I think Jesus fed those disciples like mother would feed to baby.  This is my personal opinion which actually is not intended to anger and overwhelm anyone.”

Now we all know what Last Supper meant, but I am talking in terms of  the perspective of Master and Lord of Temple, House, Heaven and Creation serving menial humans, animals and everything that has breadth and non breadth with water for cleansing not only feet but every parts of the body. And he has the provision to feed us with every kind of bread-food delicacies to feel our every parts of the body.

Aren’t we after all guest, relatives and family member of our Master and Father GOD who provides water to cleanse our feet before serving us with delicacies? This is what Jesus was doing by washing feet of Jesus with water and wiping with towel.

John the Baptist said he was unworthy to carry sandals of Jesus, but Jesus humbled to washed feet of disciples because without washing feet there can no relationship between humanity and GOD. That’s how humble our GOD is! Amen.

There is many understanding to this event of washing feet, but I am sticking to this revelations right now because I already knew the other side of the coin like it simply means Jesus washing our sins away with HIS blood.
